Ben Kruisdijk (Zaandam, NL, 1981) received his Bachelor of Arts from AKI / ArtEZ – Enschede (NL) in 2005. He lives and works in Amsterdam.

For Ben Kruisdijk, being a 21st century artist means cutting lose the clichés of 20th century avant-garde theories
not because they do not interest him (on the contrary) but because he is more interessed in the question if it is still possible to be a contemporary artist when using avant-garde theories from yesteryear.

What is excluded from the 20th century avant-garde is what inspires him and forms his subjects;
namely the creative outsider and the resulting d.i.y. culture. the term outsider being used in its broadest sense possible; teenage musicians, art students, magicians, arts and crafts, the lone artist working in an attic, etc.

Ben Kruisdijk works across disciplines and is interested in how the visual language of the creative outsider can be used as a device to create new work, through which spectators are granted the oppertunity to relive their own desires and experiences.

In 2009 and 2010 he taught at AKI / ArtEz in Enschede.
His work is included in several (private) collections in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and America.
